**THE EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED**

We have a waiting list. If you would like to be added to the waiting list, please go to http://ldnlibtmeet.eventbrite.co.uk to register.

Hello everyone,

Following on from the success of last year’s London LibTeachMeet, we are now organising London LibTeachMeet 2012.

The theme for this year is: Supporting Diverse Learners

What happens?

LibTeachMeets are gatherings where librarians share teaching ideas through 2 or 5 minute presentations! We share and discuss ideas over drinks and cakes in between the sessions.

It is also a great opportunity to meet new people and share experiences and get advice!

Presentations will be about ways of teaching or technology used to support ‘diverse learners’. Diverse learners is taken to include learners who may be new, dyslexic, mature, international, autistic, part-time, have a learning/physical difficulty or uses English as a further language, distance learners, e-learners – anyone outside your “usual” teaching group.

The only rules we have is that presentations mustn’t be trying to sell us anything, and that they must stick to the timeslot!

Who?

Everyone is welcome to attend: whatever sector, whatever job title.

When and Where?

Monday 14th May 2012 6.00 – 9.00pm

Haldane Room of the Wilkins Building of UCL

WC1E 6BT (view UCL maps)

The closest tube station is Euston Square

Registration

We are fully booked but do have a waiting list.

Please go to http://ldnlibtmeet.eventbrite.co.uk to register.

E-mail us if you are interested in attending or want to find out more information at ldnlibtm@gmail.com.

Q:Could we see/have access to the quiz?
A: The quiz is freely available online at: http://www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/story.php?title=what-kind-lrc-user-are-you

Q:What Software did you use?
A:The freeware used is ProProfs www.proprofs.com

Q:Was library management “cool” about using a social web tool?
A:My library manager was cool with the use of this web tool and the quiz was hosted on our VLE for easy use in Inductions or for students to complete in their own time.

Also Hannah has kindly sent a section of her chartership portfolio about the quiz, which I have linked to:- what kind or LRC user are you.

Any further questions for Hannah please email her at hbennett @ guildford.ac.uk or tweet me @HannahRBennett

Ruth Harrison
Q: Could we see a copy of the Treasure Hunt?
A: Please contact Ruth for a copy of the treasure hunt r.e.harrison @ imperial.ac.uk

Paula Funnell and Roddy Lander
Q:Have you ever thought of doing something other than drop-ins?
A: The main reason for starting the drop-ins was because other things weren’t working. I think one thing that we would consider is some sort of online presence, but to complement the face-to-face sessions not replace them. We certainly wouldn’t consider stopping the drop-ins as they’re working really well.

Angela Young and Zoe Thomas
Q:Could we see a copy of the peer -review checklist you talked about?
A:Peer review checklist came from Cardiff University Information Service ‘Peer Review of Learning and Teaching Checklist’ which is available under creative commons in their ‘Handbook for Information Literacy Teaching’ http://www.caerdydd.ac.uk/insrv/educationandtraining/infolit/hilt/HILT.pdf (p.112).

Last Monday we had our first London LibTeachMeet and it looks from the feedback below that it was an enjoyable and useful event. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came, I hope you all came away with interesting ideas and thoughts. Thanks to the excellent speakers for providing us with much food for thought and thanks to the Information Literacy group for providing food!

I have collated the feedback from the London LibTeachMeet on the 20th June and thought you might like to see what everyone’s views. It is nice to know other people like cake as much as me!

If you have any other comments please do feel free to add them.

Thanks for giving us really useful feedback, it will certainly help with future London LibTeachMeets

What you wanted us to continue doing
-5 minutes teaching is great! I need to do more like this
-Really useful fun thanks
-Lots of short presentations
-Cake!
-Great opportunity to share
-This is my first session on LibTeachMeet, but I really liked the whole session. Very informative and well presented. Many Thanks. Do carry on
-Format worked well, variety etc
-Good to hear ideas/good practice from different practice and liked the practical nature of the presentations
-cakes! Variety of topics. sharing of best practice
-Mixture of 5 min and 2 min presentations
-Number of presentations, length of presentations, break in the middle for refreshments, all great
-Open invite for speakers worked really well – interesting mix you might not get with “themes”
-Very useful/fun/informative. love the 5 minutes limit and the wide range of topics and the cupcakes, thanks
-Good variety of speakers and topics
-Cakes and lemonade
-Loved the variety of presentations

What we should start doing
-Possibly longer 2 1/2 to 3 hours
-Solicit talks on topics community is interested in?
-Would be good to have discussion at each table about teaching experiences
ability to ask questions
-Perhaps a longer event to allow questions (also learn from those as well as presentations)
-Pub/bar meet after session for interested people to talk further
-Video the sessions and share on Youtube/alternative
-Sometimes can’t hear what people say – use microphone/ask people to speak up?
-More time for questions and discussion
-Including more time for questions
-Encouraging enthusiastic listeners to speak
-Attendee list/institutions on name badges
-Allow time for questions
-Find a way for us to meet more of the people here – I got caught up talking to the people on my table – full day event?
-Presentations available online a great idea – will be useful to look back on

What we should stop doing
-Time limit was useful – maybe more time needed like 6 mins and 3 mins
